Girl's Crystal started off as a story paper and finished as a story and picture comic before merging with Schoolfriend. Aimed at the female audience it was initially published by Amalgamated Press and later by Fleetway Publications.

It had a number of names and merged with a number of story papers:

Girls' Crystal Weekly => 4th Jan 1938 - 19th May 1939

Girls' Crystal incorporating Schoolgirl's Weekly => 26th May 1939 - 18th May 1940

Girls' Crystal and the Schoolgirl => 25th May 1940 - Feb 1961

Girls' Crystal => Feb/Mar? 1961 - 26th Oct 1963

On the 21st March 1953 Girls' Crystal saw a new look as it changed its format and had a combination of picture stories as well as text based stories.
